What does Comprehensive Eye Care mean?
A comprehensive eye exam goes beyond just checking your vision for a new prescription. At Columbus EyeCare Associates, our full eye examination covers all aspects of your visual system and the overall health of your eyes.
We assess how your eyes work together as a team and thoroughly examine their internal and external structures for any health issues. This allows us to detect the earliest signs of eye diseases, from common cataracts to macular degeneration, often before you notice any symptoms. Early detection is the key to protecting your vision.
We also test functions such as peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and eye coordination to ensure you see clearly, comfortably, and safely.
Why Regular Examination Should Matter?
Clear sight does not always mean healthy eyes. Many serious eye conditions develop slowly without obvious symptoms. Regular checkups are essential:
- Track changes in your vision and updating your correction.
- Screen for early signs of diseases like glaucoma and cataracts.
- Detect signs of systemic health issues like diabetes or hypertension.
- Test eye coordination, which is critical for children and professionals.
- Provide preventative care to keep your vision healthy for years to come.
We encourage annual eye exams for many patients. Adults with healthy eyes should typically have an exam every 1 to 2 years, while individuals with conditions such as diabetes may need more frequent visits.
What to Expect During Your Eye Exam?
Your eye exam at Columbus EyeCare Associates will be thorough and personalized. We take your medical history, lifestyle, and any concerns you have into account.
Your exam will include a variety of tests to get a complete picture of your eye health:
- Refraction: Determines your exact prescription for glasses or contact lenses.
- Eye Teaming & Movement: Checks how effectively your eyes work together to focus.
- Depth Perception: Assesses your ability to judge distances.
- Color Vision: Screens for any color deficiencies.
- Visual Field Testing: Ensures your side (peripheral) vision is functioning correctly.
- Glaucoma & Cataract Assessment: Identifies early signs of increased intraocular pressure or lens clouding.
- Dry Eye Evaluation: Helps diagnose conditions that may cause irritation or blurred vision.
- Macular Degeneration Screening: Monitors the health of your retina to prevent central vision loss.
- Dilated Eye Exam: Provides a clear view of your retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels to detect disease.
