Babies & Childrens Eye Care

We are members of AOA (American Optometric Association) Infantsee program, and offer eye examinations for infants from 6 months to 12 months of age.
Babies learn to see over a period of time, much like they learn to walk and talk. They are not born with all the visual abilities they need in life. The ability to focus their eyes, move them accurately, and use them together as a team must be learned. Also, they need to learn how to use the visual information the eyes send to their brain in order to understand the world around them and interact with it appropriately.
Vision, and how the brain uses visual information, are learned skills.

From birth, babies begin exploring the wonders in the world with their eyes. Even before they learn to reach and grab with their hands or crawl and sit-up, their eyes are providing information and stimulation important for their development.

Healthy eyes and good vision play a critical role in how infants and children learn to see. Eye and vision problems in infants can cause developmental delays. It is important to detect any problems early to ensure babies have the opportunity to develop the visual abilities they need to grow and learn.

Parents play an important role in helping to assure their child's eyes and vision can develop properly. Steps that any parent should take include:

  • Watching for signs of eye and vision problems.
  • Seeking professional eye care starting with the first comprehensive vision assessment at about 6 months of age.
  • Helping their child develop his or her vision by engaging in age-appropriate activities.

    Dry Eye & Allergy Treatment
Dry eye syndrome is experienced more and more by Americans, especially since we are staring at computer screens all day and forgetting to blink.  Dry eye can be caused by the environment, various diseases such as diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis, medications such as oral contraceptives, and even menopause.  We will evaluate will evaluate all 3 layers or your tear film matrix, eye lid margin and glands, and will go over any potential conditions that may be making it worse. We will develop a strategy to help you overcome the discomfort from dry eye which may include artificial tears, omega-3 supplementation, punctal occlusion, or Restasis.
    Eye Infections
There are many different kinds of eye infections.  An infection can be viral, bacterial, allergic or even fungal.  Our doctors will determine what type of infection you have and treat it accordingly. It's important to visit us as soon as possible to diagnose and cure the cause of your discomfort.
Visual loss from glaucoma results from characteristic deterioration of the optic nerve leading to progressive loss of the field of vision. At least 3 million Americans suffer from glaucoma. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of adult blindness, and it is also the leading cause of preventable blindness.  Because glaucoma usually does not manifest any symptoms until extensive peripheral visual loss becomes apparent in the final stages of the disease, it is often likened to the “thief of sight.” Unlike most eye diseases, most varieties of glaucoma are chronic, virtually lifelong disorders than can be controlled but not cured. A though exam will answer your questions, relieve anxiety and save your precious vision.
